As the Science Manager, you will be involved in leading the science program of the National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program to ensure that the eradication program is based upon contemporary, evidence based science. You will also provide scientific advice to the National Electric Ant Eradication Program whose operations are based in Cairns. In addition you may also be called upon to provide scientific advice on other tramp ant species that pose a biosecurity threat to Queensland.

• Manage the scientific program of the National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program including the development and co-ordination of a multidisciplinary project portfolio, development of and management of budgets and performance and the development of reporting and evaluation frameworks that maximise the quality and adoption of the program’s scientific outcomes.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists, technical and support staff undertaking research, field experiments, management of colonies and development of innovative approaches to detection, management and eradication of biosecurity threats to ensure the effective overall performance of the National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program. 
• Oversee and inform the genetic analysis of exotic ants in Queensland by Biosecurity Queensland scientists, including intra and inter-population assessments.
• Work collaboratively with the leadership team of Biosecurity Queensland Ant Eradication Programs and with other key stakeholders to develop effective treatment and surveillance plans and policies consistent with the objectives of the 10 year eradication plan.
• Provide specialised and high level scientific and policy advice to the Chief Biosecurity Officer, Executive Director and Director on tramp ant biosecurity issues.
• Establish and develop effective relationships, networks and partnerships with other science providers and stakeholders nationally and internationally, including government, universities, community and industry to facilitate the provision of high quality science and biosecurity outcomes.
• Represent the Chief Biosecurity Officer, Executive Director and Director on national biosecurity science forums and committees and in community engagement processes to achieve biosecurity goals.
• Participate in multidisciplinary biosecurity teams across Biosecurity Queensland to facilitate and coordinate the use of science to achieve quality assured outcomes consistent with Biosecurity Queensland’s strategic direction and encourage innovation and continuous quality improvement.
• Contribute to the development of appropriate strategies to effectively manage the contribution of science to prevention, surveillance, emergency preparedness, response and ongoing management of biosecurity incidents, particularly for tramp ants.
• Foster an environment that values individual and team performance and continuous improvement and ensure that Biosecurity Queensland Ant Eradication Programs practices are consistent with contemporary principles of “best practice” and quality assurance.

Note 1: Providing the program's performance is meeting the goals set down by the 10 year eradication plan, consideration will be given to permanent employment.

Note 2 - Biosecurity Queensland Control Centre is currently located at Moggill and Richlands. The Program is seeking new accommodation to establish a consolidated headquarters site early in 2018.  Accommodation options currently being canvassed are located to the south and west of Brisbane’s CBD.
