An opportunity exists to be involved in the provision of Adult Restorative Justice Conferencing for suitable criminal matters. This role manages the delivery of Adult Restorative Justice Conferencing services from the Townsville office.

It also works directly with clients at all stages of the Adult Restorative Justice Conferencing process - interviewing and preparing them for conference as well as facilitating the restorative justice conferencing process. This role reports to the Manager – Adult Restorative Justice Conferencing.

Key Responsibilities
• Deliver high quality Restorative Justice services, including the conducting of interviews and restorative justice conferences, pursuant to the Dispute Resolution Centres Act 1990 and the policies and procedures of the Dispute Resolution Branch.
• Work in a highly confidential and sensitive organisational environment, including providing consistent and impartial advice to persons participating in Restorative Justice Conferencing.
• Manage the workflow of the office as well as managing an individual case load under limited supervision:
o making appropriate decisions and taking action necessary to manage each case individually;
o accurately monitoring, maintaining and reviewing computerised records;
o ensuring each case receives timely and effective action.
• Exercise judgement regarding the assessment of:
o matters and situations for suitability for conferencing;
o defendants' ability to take responsibility for their actions;
o power imbalances between parties;
o appropriateness of requested outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with the Adult Restorative Justice Conferencing team and Manager to build and maintain effective relationships with relevant referrers and stakeholders, including police, courts, solicitors, victim groups and community support services. This may involve presentations and education sessions with stakeholder groups.
• Assist in the delivery of training for Restorative Justice Conferencing in conjunction with the Dispute Resolution Training team.
• Undertake administrative tasks necessary to assist clients and support service operations, including:
o word processing and preparation of correspondence;
o operation of a computerised records management system;
o ensuring the accurate and reliable collation, analysis and reporting of statistical data
• Contribute to the state-wide services provided by the Dispute Resolution Branch by liaising and cooperating with staff both locally and between Centres, working towards and being aware of, performance targets and the Branch's business planning outcomes, and participating in staff meetings, special purpose working parties and business planning as required.
• Demonstrate accountability, professionalism and ethical behaviour in the workplace.

Mandatory Qualifications, Conditions and Requirements
1. A degree, or relevant work or life experience, in an area of human services is highly desirable.
2. It is preferred that the successful applicant has national mediator accreditation under the National Mediator Accreditation System and experience / training in restorative justice processes in order for them to be able to fulfil the duties of the role as soon as possible.
3. If not, it is a requirement for successful applicants to participate in, and have the capacity to be assessed as competent in a structured Mediation Skills training course (5 days in length), within a set timeframe; and to be assessed as eligible for national mediator accreditation and appointment as a mediator under the Dispute Resolution Centres Act 1990.
