Project Officer (Bee Biosecurity)

Working within Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity, you will be involved in delivering the National Bee Biosecurity Program in Queensland.

This includes promoting and monitoring implementation of the Australian Honey Bee Industry Biosecurity Code of Practice increasing the awareness and knowledge of exotic and established bee biosecurity threats, promoting, and facilitating biosecurity best practice through well-timed and well-crafted communication and education campaigns across multiple channels.

You will also liaise with the Queensland Bee Biosecurity Program State Advisory Group and Bee Biosecurity Officers in other states and territories to discuss specific issues, areas of work focus for the program and regular reporting.

• Promote the National Bee Biosecurity Program and the Australian Honey Bee Industry Biosecurity Code of Practice in Queensland through development and delivery of communication plans in consultation with DAF's Corporate Communications team. Monitor and report on implementation and compliance with the Code of Practice by beekeepers.
• Provide advice to beekeepers on best practices both to improve the management of established bee pests, including American foulbrood and to improve early detection of exotic bee pests.
• Undertake bee biosecurity communication, promotion and awareness, including delivering presentations at industry events, developing and delivering training to beekeepers and providing accurate and timely bee biosecurity information and advice to stakeholders e.g. government staff, industry and members of the public.
• Use high level written communication skills, including assisting in the preparation of extension materials and providing timely reports to Plant Health Australia (PHA) on achievement of project milestones
• Improve industry surveillance capacity for bee pests, including conducting training workshops and identifying opportunities for the collection and recording of surveillance data for high priority pests for the honey bee industry.
• Support emergency response to bee biosecurity threats and incidents, including assisting in the development of plans for emergency responses to bee biosecurity threats, completing required training and being actively involved in emergency responses.
