The Prevention and Communication Officer is responsible for:


  • Liaising with investigators and auditors in relation to ongoing investigations and audits to ensure that investigations and audits contribute, to the greatest extent possible, to prevention initiatives.
  • Producing high quality prevention products in various formats.
  • Providing advice to management about ways to maximise the impact of the Commission's prevention initiatives.
  • Engaging and collaborating with external stakeholders in relation to prevention initiatives, including topics and manner of delivery.
  • Conducting research to assist in the preparation of prevention products.
  • Writing and editing reports. 
  • In conjunction with Commission media and communications officers, proactively developing and implementing communication strategies and media opportunities with respect to prevention initiatives.
  • Contributing to a challenging, equitable, ethical and safe work environment that emphasises client service and a focus on outcomes, flexibility, innovation, responsiveness, continuous improvement and skills and capacity development.

Key accountabilities of the role

  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to review, analyse and report on complex issues, develop strategies for improvement, make high quality decisions and judgments and produce high quality prevention products in various formats.
  • Relevant experience and demonstrated achievement in a law enforcement agency or other public sector agency in areas such as compliance, investigation, audit, corporate communications or policy, coupled with relevant training or qualifications.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and oral communication skills including the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate effectively both within the Commission and with external stakeholders, and to participate in education programs, liaison activities and regional visits.
  • Well-developed written communication skills including the ability to prepare user-friendly and quality prevention products and reports, sometimes dealing with complex issues.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of the Commission's legislative framework, policies, procedures and functions, and the relevant legislative and policy framework, procedures, functions, structures and operations of public sector agencies, including and understanding of the principles of fairness, equity and ethics.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, personal drive, self-awareness and a commitment to personal development, adherence to organisational values and codes of conduct, and a demonstrated commitment to achieving outcomes in sometimes difficult circumstances.
  • Well-developed computer and social media skills and knowledge.
