The Principal Financial Investigator is responsible for:

  • Leading and managing Financial Investigators and Support Officers.
  • Managing and conducting complex financial investigations and providing high level financial investigative advice and input to multi-disciplinary team investigations.
  • Managing and conducting complex proceeds of crime investigations.
  • Preparing and presenting complex financial analyses as an expert witness for use in criminal litigation matters or proceeds of crime proceedings.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to internal and external stakeholders in relation to proceeds of crime and financial investigations.
  • Ongoing professional development and mentoring of Financial Investigators and Support Officers.
  • Facilitating the development of strong, collaborative, strategic partnerships through consulting, negotiating and networking with internal and external stakeholders.


Key accountabilities of the role

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities including leading by example, coordinating and motivating others to deliver organisational objectives and managing difficult negotiations while maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Extensive experience in effectively undertaking complex financial investigations and providing high level financial investigative advice in a law enforcement environment.
  • Extensive experience in researching and analysing complex financial and factual issues, to make high quality decisions and judgments and to meet deadlines in a high-pressure work environment.
  • High level oral and written communication skills including the demonstrated ability to present complex financial and other information in a clear and concise way for use in criminal and/or proceeds of crime proceedings.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and support a positive team culture which focusses on quality outcomes, ensures compliance with regulatory frameworks and manages risks that may impede success.
