Key duties and responsibilities

The Financial Investigator is responsible for:

  • Conducting financial investigations and providing financial investigative input into multi-disciplinary team investigations and/ or conducting proceeds of crime investigations.
  • Assisting the preparation and presentation of financial analyses for use in criminal litigation matters or proceeds of crime proceedings.

 Drafting reports, witness statements and affidavits within tight deadlines to meet operational requirements.

 Establishing productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.


Key accountabilities of the role

  • Ability or the ability to rapidly acquire the skills and knowledge to undertake financial investigations in a law enforcement environment.
  •  Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  •  Ability to research and analyse financial and factual issues and prepare quality advice within tight timeframes.
  •  Well-developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to prepare detailed reports for a variety of audiences.
  •  Ability to learn quickly, demonstrate initiative and adapt to change.

   Qualifications/professional registration/other requirements

  • Must possess a degree in Commerce, Business or Accounting from a recognised tertiary institution.  Qualifications acquired from an overseas educational institution will only be accepted where the qualification has been recognised to an equivalent level in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework.
  •  Member of, or eligible to become a member of, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand or CPA Australia.
