This is a unique opportunity to work as the First Nations Peoples Partnerships Coordinator in the Great Barrier Reef & Marine Parks Region of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships. Specifically, the role is to coordinate First Nations peoples' engagement, agreement development and delivery across the Region with a view to promoting enhanced marine and island protected area management outcomes through the development of effective and meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The focus of this role includes facilitating the involvement of First Nations peoples in protected area management through informal and formal partnership arrangements. This position will drive, promote and implement positive cultural change to ensure that the GBR&MP Region and the broader QPWS&P are at the forefront of working meaningfully with First Nations peoples on the country we manage. 

The GBR&MP Region has the primary responsibility for implementing the Field Management Program for the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, a program jointly funded by the State and the Commonwealth governments. The Region's responsibilities here include both the national park islands and State and Commonwealth marine parks spread throughout the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. This approach ensures we are committed to operating tenure-blind and values-focused. The GBR&MP Region also encompasses the State marine park waters associated with the Great Sandy and Moreton Bay Marine Parks.

This an excellent role for someone who is a good communicator, shows great initiative and has experience in project/ program management and reporting. The position is Indigenous Identified and can be based at any of our Cairns, Townsville, Airlie Beach or Gladstone base locations. Travel throughout the State will be required at times as part of the role. There are no mandatory qualifications required, however a formal qualification or experience working in culturally sensitive and complex matters would be highly regarded.

This is an Identified position - Applicants must identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
