Graduate Geologist


Mineral Assessment Hub; Minerals and Coal; Georesources; Townsville

Operating from within Mineral and Coal Operations (MCO) Brisbane and regional centres you will be involved in the facilitation of sustainable exploration and mining related development in the State.

You will be assisting the technical assessment team in undertaking technical assessment of mining tenure, the provision of advice on exploration and mining developments, liaison with clients and stakeholders in government and the community and liaison with regional exploration and mining industry operators to support the Mineral Assessment Hub.

This position requires:

• A sound understanding of geology and mineral resources.

• A sound understanding of exploration and mining processes and activities.

• Experience in achieving quality outcomes by demonstrating communication and analytical skills.

Key duties and accountabilities

• Provide support for the technical assessment team to deliver assessments on mining, exploration and development tenures within agreed timeframes and in accordance with legislation, policy and Departmental work procedures for the commodity hubs.

• Facilitate the timely progression of mining, exploration and development tenures by liaison with tenure holders, industry and Government agencies where required.

• Assist where required with high quality advice, briefings, correspondence, reports and submissions concerning technical and operational matters relating to the mining, exploration and development of Queensland's mineral and coal resources for a range of clients including the Minister and Executive Management.

• Assist with the development, coordination, implementation, monitoring and review of departmental and government policies and processes

• Assist in the preparation of advice for protection of significant mineral or coal resources to facilitate the implementation of protection by State agencies and local government as required.

• Undertake research and identification of regionally significant mineral or coal resources throughout the State, assess the need for their protection, and assess the implications for ongoing access to such resources resulting from decisions by Federal, State or local government agencies as required.

• Work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with colleagues to achieve high quality outcomes.

• Other duties as directed and required.
