Graduate Technical Officer

Petroleum Assessment Hub; Petroleum and Gas; Georesources; Brisbane

Operating from within the Georesources division, you will be responsible for assisting with the technical assessment of petroleum, geothermal, and greenhouse gas applications to the Department of Resources.

In the role of Graduate Technical Officer, you will be part of a confidential and dedicated team that is responsible for the alignment of applications to various relevant Government of Queensland policies and industry standards, such as the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004 and the Society of Petroleum Engineers Petroleum Resource Management System (SPEPRMS).

This role provides opportunities for technical engineering assessments, policy development, public service awareness, and contributes to understanding relevant standards, guidelines and communications.

This position requires:

• Demonstrated ability to apply scientific investigation methodologies in research, analysis and problem solving

• Ability to communicate technical data to a multi-discipline audience both written and verbally

• An interest in the rapidly evolving petroleum, geothermal and greenhouse gas injection industries

• A growth mindset to allow you to learn at a fast pace, acquiring a variety of technical, policy and project delivery skills and experience  

Key duties and accountabilities

• Assist in technical assessments associated with the applications for activities in the petroleum, geothermal and greenhouse gas industry.

• Contribute to technical reports, and if applicable, provide recommendations relating to technical data received.

• Assist in evaluation techniques used to determine accuracy and uncertainties related to application submissions

• Assist in identifying problems and possible solutions pertaining to relevant technical information, in collaboration with other teams within the Queensland Government

• Work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with colleagues to achieve high quality outcomes

• Contribute as both a team member and independently as required to ensure projects are achieved in timely and efficient manner

• Other duties as directed and required.
