As a Custodial Correctional Officer, you will play a vital role is making the state of Queensland a safe place to live. You will be tasked with securing offenders and assisting in their rehabilitation. Your challenge is to help them return home with a greater respect for our laws and a willingness to positively contribute to their communities.

Salary: $2,836.25 up to $3,459.78 (includes superannuation)
Yearly Salary: $73,994.77 up to $90,262.65 (includes superannuation)

Please note:  Custodial Correctional Officers working in correctional centres attract an aggregated shift allowance of 31.5%. Custodial Correctional Officers working within Courts Unit do not attract aggerated shift allowance as these roles are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

You don't need any prior experience or qualifications to be a CCO. We are looking for people who are committed to making a difference in other people's lives.

What type of work will I do in the CCO role?

Custodial Correctional Officers (CCO) play a vital role in the operations of Correctional Centres across Queensland. The role of a CCO is dynamic and varied. You can be managing prisoner movements one day to assisting them through their rehabilitation pathway the next. There are also opportunities to work in different specialist areas within our centres.

Below are some of the role's responsibilities. If you were successful, these are some of the activities that would do:

  • Induction of prisoners into the centre
  • Staffing prisoner accommodation units
  • Supporting and overseeing prisoner attendance at vocational training, education & employment
  • Supporting engagement in cultural programs
  • Creating file notes and reports for case management.
  • Operating control rooms
  • Undertaking perimeter surveillance and searches
  • External escorts

Please note: Custodial Correctional Officers – Courts Unit, do not attract aggregated shift allowance (ASA) as these roles are Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm.

What if the role is not in my hometown?

QCS will provide relocation assistance up to $7,000 for eligible recruits who wish to relocate and work at the following centres:

  • Capricornia Correctional Centre (Rockhampton)
  • Townsville Correctional Centre (Townville)
  • Lotus Glen Correctional Centre (Mareeba)
