Closing the Gap is a significant, long-term reform that will result in a visibly different way of government working with communities to deliver better outcomes for the Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Our team engages in a new way of working based on best practice that can lead to genuine impactful change: engaging in whole-of-government reform as well as working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as they determine the best approach to establishing and maintaining local decision-making bodies, enabling evidence-informed decision-making about the design and delivery of services in each community.

Key responsibilities of this role:
• Recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and support stakeholder and community engagement in accordance with cultural protocols.
• Manage, monitor and analyse activities, trends and progress of desired outcomes and apply and share learnings to support effective program design, implementation and evaluation.
• Support implementation and delivery of Closing the Gap priority reforms through the team's Closing the Gap programs, applying strong skills in internal and external stakeholder engagement, procurement, program reporting, planning, analysis and evaluation as required.
• Coordinate the preparation of timely and high quality briefs, reports, submissions and correspondence as required.
• Maintain accurate reporting systems to ensure timely information for input into meetings, corporate reporting systems, Ministerial and Cabinet briefs, correspondence, submissions and reports.
• Initiate, influence and maintain positive relationships with and between internal and external stakeholders and facilitate effective communication channels to promote the successful adoption of change and delivery of projects.
• Contribute to a strength-based departmental culture of excellence that is embedded in high expectations relationships, ensuring sensitive and effective communication with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as an appreciation of the impacts of historical policies and practices on Queensland's First Nations people

All applicants must nominate an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to their ability to meet the cultural capability criteria. This person may be a community member, supervisor or work colleague. An applicant's confirmation as a First Nations Australian does not exempt them from providing a cultural reference.
