This is a new temporary role at Queensland State Archives (QSA) focussed on conservation and preservation work to enable the digitisation of fragile records containing information relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We are looking for a qualified conservator with at least 2 years' experience in hands-on conservation of archival records, preferably with paper specialisation, and is competent in undertaking treatments according to contemporary best practice.
As Conservator you will:
• complete conservation condition examinations and carry out straight forward conservation treatments on a wide range of record formats in the QSA collection
• maintain detailed and accurate documentation and reporting of activities and treatments carried out on collection items
• undertake preventative conservation activities including integrated pest management, disaster preparedness, environmental monitoring
• assist with loan and exhibition administration and prepare items for exhibits, loans and permanent storage, including the preparation of customised housings for non-standard items and fragile objects
• participate in the development of procedures and preventative programs for preservation of archival records in a range of formats
• deliver training, presentations, and seminars on conservation topics to QSA staff, government agencies and the public and facilitate tours of the preservation lab to QSA visitors.
• ensure compliance with Departmental policies, practices and procedures relating to Workplace Health and Safety.
