The new Teach Queensland Prac Placement Grant (TQ PPG) provides an opportunity for final year preservice teachers who are studying an initial teacher education program to experience teaching in a Queensland state school before graduation.
Eligibility
If you completed your final minimum consecutive 15-day placement in a Queensland state school in term 3 or will undertake your placement in term 4, you will be provided with a one-off grant of up to $5,000* to assist with placement related expenses.
In addition, if you completed your final minimum consecutive 15-day placement in a regional, rural or remote Queensland state school in term 3 or you will undertake your placement in term 4, you may also be eligible for an additional grant of up to $5,000* (dependant on the location and length of the placement) through the:
If you received a RPEG or BTRG in term 3 or intend to apply for a RPEG or BTRG in term 4, you won't need to submit an application for the new TQ PPG. The department's scholarships and grants team will provide the new grant to you in due course.
You aren't eligible to apply for the grant/s if your final placement is within a non-state school setting (including Catholic, independent or private schools).
If you are an international student who currently resides in Australia and has permission under a Commonwealth Law, to study in Australia, you are eligible to apply for this grant. Evidence of a valid visa and passport is to be submitted with your online application.
How to apply
If you completed your placement in term 3 (8 July to 13 September) or will undertake your placement in term 4 (30 September to 13 December), you can apply for this grant anytime between now and 13 December 2024 by:
- selecting the green ‘apply online' button below
- log into your Smart Jobs account (create an account if needed), and
- provide your personal details
- under the ‘resume, cover letter and other documents' header, attach your current academic transcript, confirmation of enrolment for Semester 2 2024, valid blue card, confirmation of the placement (i.e., InPlace or Sonia Online), and ID.Visa (if required)
- respond to all questions in the questionnaire.

Processing
Due to the expected number of applications, it may take us up to 6 weeks to get in touch with you by email to either seek further information for your application or to provide a grant offer. Please check your email account regularly including the junk/bin/spam folders for updates.
Grant payment
Payment can take up to 4 weeks and is initiated upon receipt of the relevant documents. Payment will be provided in a lump sum by EFT or with your fortnightly pay if you're an employee of the department. *Employees will have the grant taxed as per the ATO requirements.
A condition for payment is to notify the department of any changes to the approved placement particulars. Please keep the receipts for placement-related expenses and seek financial advice (i.e., advisor, ATO, Centrelink) regarding potential implications to current and future income and/or benefits received/to be paid.
