You will, support a World Heritage Advisory Committee whilst reframing the relationship between First Nations people and the Department in order to support co-stewarding the cultural and natural values of Queensland. This role is the Senior Project Officer for the K'gari (Fraser Island) World Heritage Area (WHA) and sits within the World Heritage team, OGBR&WH Branch which is responsible for ensuring State (and Commonwealth) World Heritage planning, reporting and administrative obligations are being met. Increasingly the World Heritage team is endeavouring to build relationships with the First Nations peoples of WHAs and support their ongoing connection to country. The World Heritage team maintain a close relationship and cooperate with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and First Nations peoples to ensure the Outstanding Universal Value of these areas are protected, presented and transmitted to future generations.
(Outstanding Universal Value means cultural and/or natural significance which is so exceptional as to transcend national boundaries and to be of common importance for present and future generations of all humanity). This role will provide a range of administrative, project and policy related activities to support and coordinate the K'gari World Heritage Advisory Committee and stakeholders for the K'gari WHA.

This role will also support other World Heritage projects as required.

This position requires:
• Ability to support strategic direction and demonstrate an ability to develop options to resolve complex issues.
• Ability to achieve results, including an ability to effectively manage projects and achieve outcomes on time and within budget.
• Ability to engage in and maintain productive working relationships with First Nations people, other stakeholders and Government agencies.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and explain complex technical information.
• A sound knowledge of/or demonstrated ability to quickly acquire knowledge of relevant World Heritage management legislation, policies and procedures as it applies to the work of the Department.
• Contribution to workplace equity and diversity that enriches our culture of innovation, respect and inclusion.
