This is your opportunity to work on diverse, high-profile commercial matters involving complex contracts, real property, intellectual property, and more - while mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to strategic outcomes in a challenging, high-volume environment. Based in Brisbane's CBD, you'll be part of a collaborative and values driven team delivering meaningful services to the people of Queensland. Be part of something bigger - apply your legal expertise to shape Queensland's future. We're seeking a commercially minded legal professional to join the Business and Corporate Partnership's In-house Legal (IHL) team as a Principal Lawyer. Based in Brisbane CBD, this permanent, full-time role offers a unique opportunity to support three partner agencies - Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development (NRMMRRD), Department of Primary Industries, and Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

About the role
You'll deliver technically excellent legal advice on a wide variety of commercial matters, supporting teams from operational staff up to Director-General and Ministerial level. With a strong focus on contractual arrangements, land tenure management and intellectual property issues, you'll manage complex and sensitive legal issues in a fast paced, high-volume environment. You'll also mentor junior team members, contribute to improving contract templates, and support cross-agency coordination with Crown Law and external counsel.

You'll be an experienced legal practitioner with at least five years' post-admission experience and hold (or be eligible for) admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland. You're known for your ability to juggle competing priorities, communicate complex legal advice clearly, and offer pragmatic, solution-focused outcomes. Experience in State land tenure, IP, IT and data issues or government advisory work will be highly regarded. This role suits a self-motivated professional with a collaborative mindset and a desire to contribute to strategic legal services that
make a real difference.
