The Department:
Crown Law is the in-house legal firm for the Queensland Government, offering intellectually stimulating, professionally engaging and personally rewarding careers. You'll join a team trusted to advise on some of the state's most complex and high profile legal matters.
About the Role:
This role is ideal for a senior lawyer who thrives on complex litigation and high-end legal advisory work. Reporting to the Assistant Crown Solicitor, you'll work on significant, sensitive, often novel and at times urgent insurance litigation, advising on liability and quantum, evidence, and resolution strategies.
The work includes:
- Acting for the State and its agencies in personal injuries, public liability and medical negligence matters;
- Advising government clients on risk, liability and quantum and resolution strategies;
- Preparing complex pleadings, applications, affidavits and submissions;
- Appearing in court on interlocutory matters; and
- Providing authoritative legal advice to Crown Law and government clients.
Skills & Experience:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Admission as a Legal Practitioner in Queensland with a minimum of 8 years' PAE demonstrated insurance and litigation experience (defendant experience will be highly regarded);
- Deep understanding of relevant legislation and court processes including the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules, Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 and Civil Liability Act 2003;
- Proven ability to manage complex files and provide authoritative legal advice with a high degree of autonomy;
- Excellent drafting, analysis and advocacy capabilities;
- Experience advising sophisticated clients on complex matters.
