The DNA Management Section is part of the Forensic Services Group (FSG), Operations Support Command and is responsible for the operational and administrative activities to ensure that efficient and effective DNA management services are provided to the QPS and other agencies.

The section liaises closely with Forensic Science Queensland (FSQ) who provide most of the DNA analytical services for the QPS.

Your key accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

• Close liaison with the senior investigators and DNA laboratory scientists in support of investigative outcomes.
• Research and analyse complex investigations and contribute to the development of forensic examination strategies, with a focus on identifying opportunities afforded through DNA testing including advancements in this area of forensic science.
• Critically analyse relevant information relating to major crime investigations with a view to the prioritisation and allocation of available DNA testing resources.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in the pursuit of forensic evidence pertaining to unsolved major crime investigations.
• Prepare timely and well-researched submissions, briefs, notes and correspondence in relation to testing strategies for the information of senior management, FSG and senior investigators.
• Assess the results of DNA testing in the context of the case, and make recommendations in relation retesting, further testing or alternative testing.
• Provide advice to investigators and forensic officers in relation to the probity and limitations of DNA testing results.
• Supervise members of the DNA Management Section including setting work priorities and monitoring performance.

Role Requirements

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience

• Experience as a forensic officer or criminal investigator is highly desirable.

Other

• This is a temporary position until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension. If selected, public service officers from other agencies will be seconded for the period concerned, subject to agreement and release by the home agency.
• The successful applicant/s will be required to undergo psychometric assessment, prior to appointment.
• Applicants are advised they may be exposed to material (written, visual and audio) of a graphic and sensitive nature.
• The successful applicant/s will be required to work within QPS Headquarters, Brisbane and FSQ, Coopers Plains.
