We are looking for a Principal Scientist (Epidemiology and Statistics), to join our high performing team in Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity:
• support core plant biosecurity functions, with a strong emphasis on designing and delivering risk-based surveillance systems using epidemiological methods and systems thinking.
• lead a high-performing team and work collaboratively with other internal teams and external stakeholders
• communicate complex scientific outputs into clear, actionable insights for technical, policy and operational audiences.

Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity (PBPI) - The PBPI Program has an integral role in delivering BQ's vision of leading the delivery of innovative, customer focused biosecurity services for Queensland. The Program's goal is to protect Queensland's agricultural industries, environment and communities from plant pests and diseases and facilitate trade in high quality, safe agricultural products.
As our Principal Scientist (Epidemiology and Statistics), you will support core plant biosecurity functions, with a strong emphasis on designing and delivering risk-based surveillance systems using epidemiological methods and systems thinking. You will support our growing capability in data science, using analytics tools such as R, Python, and SQL, to strengthen decision-making and strategic investment in biosecurity.
You will know you're achieving success in the role when you:
• are actively leading a high-performing team and are working collaboratively with other internal teams and external stakeholders
• communicating complex scientific outputs into clear, actionable insights for technical, policy and operational audiences
• can manage your own work priorities, ensuring assigned tasks are undertaken promptly and meet timeframes
• have a strong understanding of state, national and international developments in areas of plant pest epidemiology, data analysis, data science and modelling
• maintain a professional development program.
