About the role:
12 month temporary Senior Lawyer opportunity in the WorkCover team at Crown Law
Your key responsibilities:
- Conduct a professional legal practice and undertake the range of legal work completed by the team.
- When required, provide supervision and guidance to other members of the practice in conduct of legal matters.
- As required, assist in:
- the provision of legal training to officers of client departments and Crown Law
- promoting Crown Law services to client departments
- the provision of specialist advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to client departments and other officers within the legal practice group
- liaising with officers of government departments, corporations and instrumentalities
- negotiating skilfully in tough situations, winning concessions without damaging relationships
- writing and communicating succinctly in a variety of settings to convey messages that will achieve a desired effect.
- Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self development
- Comply at all times with the office standards
- In addition to the relevant Workers' Compensation legislation, applicants should be familiar with or have knowledge of the following legislation:
- Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002
- Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994
- Civil Liability Act 2003.
- Have an extensive knowledge of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules and be familiar with the rules of the Federal and High Court.
Skills & Experience:
To succeed in this role, you will have
- admission as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland;
- a minimum of 5 years relevant PAE experience
- working knowledge of Workers' Compensation legislation, as well be familiar with Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002, Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994 and Civil Liability Act 2003;
- strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage complex matters and client relationships; and
- demonstrated capacity to manage more complex files with minimal supervision.
