Role details

The Women's Health Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Registered Nurse (Student Midwife) to join their team on a Temporary Part Time (40 - 48 hours p.f.) basis, from date of appointment for up to 18 months.

Your opportunity

The Registered Nurse (Student Midwife) provides nursing services within the Women's Health Unit; and demonstrates competence in the provision of nursing care as specified by registration requirements, NMBA standards and codes, educational preparation, relevant legislation, and context of care under the guidance of the Registered Midwife. The RN-Student midwife works predominantly in the Postnatal/Gynaecological ward whilst completing a Postgraduate Diploma of Midwifery. 

About the Team

The Women's Health Unit has approximately 1500 births per year and is a referral service for rural facilities within the Mackay Health Service District. It consists of an 18-bed inpatient postnatal ward, 6 birthing suites, Special Care Nursery and a Birth Centre located alongside the unit. Multiple midwifery models of care consist within our unit. Opportunities for continuing education and advancement are offered and teamwork is a central value.
