Key Outcomes and Accountabilities  

  • Provide a leadership, training and mentoring role to team members, ensuring ongoing compliance by officers to the Building Code or Australia, Australia Standards and QBCC policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance to approve scopes for the rectification of defective and incomplete residential construction work and the payment of contractors performing such work, and give evidence before the Commercial and Consumer Tribunal and other Courts relating to challenges of decisions and claims recovery action.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and review of terms of cover, policies, procedures and systems.
  • Manage a case load including conducting investigations and preparation of detailed reports regarding complaints in relation to defective building work.
  • Administer the regulatory provisions of the QBCC Act 1991 including undertaking disciplinary action against building practitioners. Interpret and apply the requirements of the Building Act 1975, the Building Code of Australia and associated Australian Standards.
  • Prepare reports and statements for disciplinary proceedings and give evidence before the Commercial and Consumer Tribunal and other Courts.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and review of dispute resolution policies, procedures and systems.

Candidate Attributes

  1. Hold qualifications to be eligible or currently hold a Builder's License from QBCC in Queensland (mandatory)
  2. Possess a current Driver's License (Motor Vehicle) and have a good driving record. This position will require the ability to travel frequently and at short notice across the State (mandatory).
    1. Be able to apply contemporary building standards, practices, legislation and codes within the construction industry, including demonstrated ability to supervise the performance of all building work.
    2. Have high level interpersonal, consultative, negotiation and mediation skills.
    3. Have high level investigative, analytical and problem solving skills and ability to manage cases particularly related to a highly technical environment.
