The Role
Queensland Corrective Services has multiple exciting opportunities for a Psychologist to join one of our Correctional Centres in Central Queensland
(Capricornia Correctional Centre or Maryborough Correctional Centre). As a Psychologist, you will play a key role in improving the mental health, well-being, and rehabilitation of adults in custody. No two days will ever be the same; you will be busy, manage a challenging case load, get experiential on the job learning like no other role, all while providing quality clinical services that includes assessments and tailored interventions that support mental health and wellbeing. Your solid interpersonal skills will enable you to collaborate and work effectively and sensitively with a diverse range of clients.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct independent risk assessments of harm to self or others, including acute or chronic risk
• Provide psychoeducation related to mental health conditions, symptoms and treatment options to individuals
• Deliver individual or group-based brief, skill acquisition focused interventions aimed at developing coping skills and building resilience
• Maintain a high level of knowledge and contemporary understanding of psychopathology, diagnostic classification systems and clinical and psychometric assessment tools
About You
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
• Experience in psychological assessment and intervention for adults with mental health conditions, cognitive impairments, or developmental disorders.
• Knowledge of risk assessment tools and rehabilitation strategies in correctional settings.
• Strong communication skills for engaging diverse client groups and stakeholders.
• Ability to apply research-based practices to offender rehabilitation.
Requirements
• General or provisional registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA (or eligibility to obtain registration upon commencement).
• Bachelor's degree (4-year minimum) in Psychology or Behavioural Science.
• Compliance with National Psychology Board and AHPRA registration standards.
• Professional Indemnity Insurance if engaged in secondary employment.
