Senior Conservation Officer

The Pest Services team sits within the Technical Services branch of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships (QPWS&P) and provides strategic services and advice regarding the agency’s internal and external legislative and custodial responsibilities as they relate to the management of invasive species. The team plays an important role in applying appropriate levels of governance, ensuring that invasive species management activities are well planned and advised by contemporary science, that the staff are appropriately trained and that systems are in place to collect, manage and report on relevant data.
This position will assist in the coordination of programs and systems and the management of data and resources which contribute to the management of invasive species on Queensland’s protected areas and forests to ensure the protection of natural and cultural values

As the Senior Conservation Officer, you will:
• Support and guide operational programs to deliver invasive species management, and provide input to associated policies, guidelines and procedures,
• Assist with design of monitoring programs, identify issues and develop systems, procedures and standards to support delivery of invasive species management activities on protected areas,
• Contribute to the preparation of correspondence, reports, submissions and briefing papers to accurately inform adaptive management.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships and consultative processes with internal and external stakeholders including members of the community, First Nations peoples, other government agencies (local, State and Commonwealth) industries and special interest groups to ensure effective invasive species management on the protected area estate,
• Represent the pest services team in internal and external meetings and groups.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations peoples of Australia.
