Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a vital role in securing the state's agricultural prosperity and preserving and protecting the health of our environment and economy. We are dedicated to safeguarding both human and animal health by preventing and mitigating plant and animal pests and diseases. We work tirelessly to uphold a high level of animal welfare standards and maintain access to interstate markets, critical for Queensland's thriving primary industries. BQ monitors and regulates the application of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, ensuring they are used safely and in compliance with legislation. With a commitment to developing capabilities and preparedness, we are at the forefront of protecting Queensland against biosecurity risks.
Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) - ABW supports BQ's efforts to prevent, respond to and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to market. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DAF response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.
As our biosecurity officer, you will provide operational services that protect and enhance animal biosecurity and welfare in Queensland. With Queensland being affected by more biosecurity incursions than any other Australian state or territory, your efforts will be integral in helping the government prevent, respond to and recover from biosecurity concerns that threaten our environment and economy.
You will know you're achieving success in the role when you:
• are dedicated to protecting and enhancing animal biosecurity and welfare.
• can manage your own work priorities, ensuring assigned tasks are undertaken promptly and meet the project deliverables.
• are actively contributing as a member of a high-performing team.
It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.
Applications to remain current for 12 months.
