We are looking for a frontline Principal Operational Veterinarian to join our high performing team in Animal Biosecurity and Welfare to:
• Use professional veterinary expertise and experience to conduct complex animal disease investigations and surveillance activities, provide professional advice and analysis based on sound epidemiological knowledge including risk assessments
• Proactively facilitate team and organisational capability development through knowledge sharing, mentoring and leadership.

Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.

Our frontline veterinarians use their knowledge of veterinary science to support and promote an animal biosecurity and welfare system that protects Queensland's economy, environment, lifestyle and human and animal health.

A healthy work-life balance for veterinary professionals is promoted with an average 7.25-hour workday.

As a frontline Principal Operational Veterinarian, you will:

  • Use professional veterinary expertise and experience to conduct complex animal disease investigations and surveillance activities, provide professional advice and analysis based on sound epidemiological knowledge including risk assessments
  • Proactively facilitate team and organisational capability development through knowledge sharing, mentoring and leadership.
  • Integrate and drive the team's development and maintenance of effective relationships, networks and partnerships with stakeholders across the state, including the veterinary profession, government, industry and the community to facilitate effective program outcomes.
  • Work with the Manager of Veterinary Operations to develop, implement and review an annual plan for the Veterinary Operations team with clear and achievable targets consistent with Program and Departmental strategic plans.

It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.

1 position negotiable at a DPI location in the North region and 1 position negotiable at a DPI location in the South Region (not South-East).
