As a Senior Agricultural Officer (Environment), you’ll work with producers in the GBR catchments to promote compliance with regulated farm practices, fostering relationships & driving behaviour change. Your role includes on-farm inspections, permit assessments, industry guidance & contributing to innovative strategies that reduce sediment and nutrient run-off. This regulatory role supports lasting change benefiting farms, communities and the Reef.
We value collaboration, innovation & purpose. Strong communication & problem-solving skills are key. Experience in agriculture, environmental science or regulation is helpful but not essential.

This regulatory role focuses on working with agricultural producers in the Great Barrier Reef catchment area of Queensland. Applicants should be aware that the position is land-based, centred around engaging with industry stakeholders to improve agricultural practices.
As a Senior Agricultural Officer (Environment), you will be responsible for delivering on-ground regulatory activities, such as farm inspections and permit assessments, to ensure compliance with agricultural standards. You will engage with stakeholders, including agricultural producers, advisors, and industry partners, using tailored communication strategies to promote the voluntary adoption of regulated farm practices.
Collaboration with your team will be key to addressing complex environmental issues and developing innovative regulatory approaches. You will also recommend enforcement actions where necessary and drive continuous improvement by seeking innovative solutions to manage environmental risks. Finally, you will work to enhance the effectiveness of our regulatory activities through ongoing refinement and innovation.
We are in search of an individual who is fuelled by passion and determination, endowed with a knack for problem-solving and outstanding communication skills and adept at navigation challenging dialogue to untangle complex matters. While previous experience with agricultural producers would be beneficial, it is crucial that you possess a keen understanding of the environmental impact of the agricultural industry and can quickly learn how to use the regulatory tools to address issues. As a proactive collaborator, you should cherish the ethos of teamwork and have the capability to operate effortlessly with your peers, supervisors and the wider departmental network.
You may not have worked in a regulatory capacity previously, but you should have the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and legislative frame works and their implementation.

This position in based in either Cairns, Townsville, Mackay or Rockhampton but may require travel to other locations from time to time, including overnight stays.
