The Arterial & Motorway Optimisation team is responsible for the configuration and optimisation of arterial and motorway corridors state-wide, management of real-time planned and unplanned disruptions on the network via traffic signal and smart motorway controls. The team also analyses localised network performance investigates and responds to enquiries related to traffic signal operations and coordination.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Principal Engineer (Traffic) you will provide specialist technical expertise relating to the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the road network concentrating on the application of traffic signals and intelligent transport systems (ITS) to improve capacity, reduce congestion and maintain safety.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Project manage the development and implementation of complex traffic management systems, technologies, applications, specifications and analysis to support effective leadership to the South Coast Optimisation team.
• Provide guidance, advice and support on ITS, traffic engineering and signal design suitability and options and the use of materials, resources, components or systems within projects.
• Prepare and deliver professional and technical advice, submissions and briefs relating to all aspects of road network signalised and un-signalised intersections, and other active traffic management systems such as smart motorways.
• Participate in the monitoring and measurement of road network operational performance, traffic demands and user safety.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
• Significant experience in traffic engineering, including analytical modelling (SIDRA, microsimulation, etc.), Intelligent Transport Systems, and traffic management systems and standards.
• Strong analytical and technical skills to foster continuous improvement in the efficiency of systems and technologies.
• Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills coupled with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions to a variety of audiences and to gain commitment from key stakeholders to support ideas or take action.
• Proactively builds long-term working relationships with partners and key stakeholders to promote departmental and operational goals and achieve successful outcomes for stakeholders.
• Inspires and sustains team cohesion, engagement and performance by focusing the teams on specific and measurable short- and long-term goals, and empowering autonomy and ownership for the delivery and quality of outcomes achieved.
• Creates an environment that inspires people to generate novel solutions with measurable value for customers.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions:
A four-year, Washington Accord accredited, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent which is assessed/accepted by Engineers Australia against Washington Accord benchmarks.
• Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
• A current 'C' class driver's licence.
