About the Queensland Small Business Commissioner
The Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB) is improving customer service, supporting small and family business owners, and delivering better government services.
Within the small and family business portfolio of CDSB sits the Queensland Small Business Commissioner (QSBC), a statutory position created under the Small Business Commissioner Act 2022. The Commissioner provides leadership, advocacy, and support to the small business community, ensuring their voice is heard in policy development and decision-making.
The Commissioner plays a crucial role in serving as a central point of contact for small businesses seeking advice, assistance, or dispute resolution. It also drives reforms to reduce red tape, encourages productive engagement between government agencies, larger businesses and the small business sector, and fosters an operating environment where small and family business can thrive.
About the Commissioner
The Commissioner reports directly to the Minister and is supported by a specialist team provided by CDSB. This structure provides the Commissioner with both the independence required to advocate effectively and the resources necessary to deliver services that are practical, timely, and trusted by the business community.
As the Commissioner, you will influence and build trust, where evidence-based decision-making and stakeholder engagement are central to success. The role also leads the Office of the Queensland Small Business Commissioner, with a clear mandate: to advocate, resolve disputes, and drive systemic improvements that benefit the small business sector.
This role is suited to a leader who is at their best when at the intersection of business and government. You will need to be equally comfortable engaging with a small business owner navigating day-to-day challenges and advising the Minister on strategic policy reform initiatives. By combining practical dispute resolution services with well researched evidenced based advocacy, the Commissioner ensures Queensland's small and family business community is represented through the provision of effective advocacy and practical support.
