The role:
In the role of Town Planner, you will be involved in development facilitation, infrastructure planning and network management with respect to the Northern district's state-controlled road network and provide specialist town planning and development facilitation advice in relation to transport planning undertaken by the Department, including the provision of specialist advice in respect to the application of the Planning Act 2016, and Transport Infrastructure Act 1994.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Review state and local government planning documents to assess their implications for Transport and Main Roads and provide response to those documents on behalf of the Region including recommendations to protect the safety and efficiency of the state-controlled road network.
• Provide town planning advice in respect to development applications in accordance with the Planning Act 2016 (PA), the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994 (TIA) and the State Development Assessment Provisions.
• Provide town planning advice in respect to applications and/or enquiries relating to Road Advertising Signs, Notifiable Road Uses, Works in State-controlled Road Reserves, Ministerial Designations and so on.
• Assist in the identification and provide advice on modifications or adaptions to town planning documents
• Manage development applications throughout their life cycle including the efficient application of project management tools in relation to town planning.
• Assist in the co-ordination of all operational tasks to ensure successful completion of activities within time, quality, cost and stakeholders expectations.
• Apply relevant standards, policies, guidelines and legislative requirements in respect to development assessments and transport planning.
• Liaise and consult with a range of internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to transport infrastructure and development activities in the region.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions:
• A Bachelor of Planning, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, or Bachelor of Urban and Environmental Planning or equivalent as assessed by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
• A current Class ‘C' Drivers Licence.
• Pre-employment checks, including a criminal history screening and declaration of serious discipline history will be required to be completed.
• Must be eligible to work in Australia.
