The Command is focused on enhancing whole of government capability and delivering state level support to disaster operations based on the requirements of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements (QDMA).

Your key accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Lead and manage the public information and warnings function including personnel, process and technology through implementation of continuous improvement and quality assurance processes in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
  • Lead and manage the development and review of policies and procedures, and provide technical input into training development and implementation to ensure a consistent approach to deliver public information and warnings
  • Contribute to national and international disaster management and communication sector research and policy development relating to public information and warnings.
  • Provide strategic input and advice on public information and warnings into the ongoing development of the broader disaster management function to ensure alignment with the evolution of contemporary disaster and emergency management approaches.
  • Prepare and review complex communication content, briefs, reports, submissions, and correspondence, relating to public information and warnings, in accordance with requirements.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to contribute to effective disaster management and public information.
  • Represent the State and/or QPS on relevant internal and external committees and working groups at the national and state level in support of effective public information and warnings.
  • Lead and manage the functions of the team through effective human resource, and financial management practices, including developing staff through performance, planning and review.
  • Provide specialist advice to the Minister's office, the Commissioner and Executive Leadership Team and Senior Executives on strategic public information and warnings.

Role Requirements

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience

  • Knowledge, experience, or qualifications in public information and warnings, and/or disaster management will be highly regarded.

Other

  • Capacity to support operational duties during disaster events. This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include deployment to other parts of the State.
