Director, Water Planning


Unlocking Water; North Region; Water Resource Management; Brisbane City (Flexible)

The Director SO Water Planning position within North Region, DLGWV will lead the Unlocking Water Team and deliver on key departmental priorities. You will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the Water Availability and Security in Queensland’s Water Plans project and undertake an analysis of all 23 regional water plans to identify:
-Water availability for economic development, a strategic approach to unallocated water releases and water markets.
-Opportunities to increase consumptive water in the unsupplemented pool through modelling and science
-Causes of current underutilisation and options to address them
-Trading opportunities to activate water already in the market
-Education materials on the availability of specific UAW products and how to access them
-Integration of outcomes from urban and regional water security assessments.

The Role
The Director, Water Planning position within North Region, DLGWV will lead the Unlocking Water Team and deliver on key departmental priorities. You will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the Water Availability and Security in Queensland's Water Plans project and undertake an analysis of all 23 regional water plans to identify:
-Water availability for economic development, a strategic approach to unallocated water releases and water markets
-Opportunities to increase consumptive water in the unsupplemented pool through modelling and science
-Causes of current underutilisation and options to address them
-Trading opportunities to activate water already in the market
-Education materials on the availability of specific UAW products and how to access them
-Integration of outcomes from urban and regional water security assessments

Key Accountabilities
-Lead and manage a geographically dispersed team of 5 staff to deliver the Unlocking Water project
-Undertake technical assessments (environmental, economic, social, hydrologic, cultural) and stakeholder engagement
-Engage with the Commonwealth on accredited water resource plans and related matters
-Represent the department at state and national water forums
-Deliver science programs supporting water planning and intergovernmental agreements
-Lead engagement with First Nations peoples to support Indigenous water reserves
-Other duties as directed

About You
-Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multi-disciplinary teams
-Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and emotional intelligence
-Experience presenting to senior stakeholders, executives, and Ministers
-A current “C” class driver's licence is desirable
-Alignment with the Leadership competencies for Queensland, especially in strategic leadership, innovation, relationship building, and governance
