The role of Compliance Lawyer at the Legal Services Commission is an opportunity to contribute to important work of the Commission and be instrumental in the outcomes of the regulation of Queensland’s legal profession. You will be part of a team whose primary responsibilities are the operation of the Commission’s compliance programs and broader engagement with the practising legal profession.
Your primary responsibility will be monitoring compliance requirements following orders made by a disciplinary body, undertakings provided to the Commission, enforcement of costs and other orders, managing internal reviews and assisting with other internal compliance processes such as processing applications for access to information.

As a Lawyer with the Commission's Compliance team, you undertake a range of legal work to assist in the performance of the Commission's functions under the Act. The role reports to the Compliance team manager and includes independent and collaborative work to support other lawyers, investigators, regulatory litigators and the Commissioner in discharging regulatory functions.
In the role of Compliance Lawyer, you will:
• monitor compliance requirements of respondents in relation to orders made by a disciplinary body, undertakings provided to the Commission,
• make recommendations regarding the enforcement of costs and other orders, and undertake those actions on behalf of the Commissioner
• manage all requests for internal reviews of decisions made by the Commissioner or any delegate and make recommendations to the Commissioner on the outcomes of such reviews
• assist with other internal compliance processes such as processing applications for access to information
• contribute to the Commission's compliance and audit programs (including law practice self-assessments) of law practices under the Act and under relevant provisions of the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002, and other compliance programs of the Commission (which may include development and implementation of new programs), including planning, conducting, and completing audits in accordance with program timelines
• identify relevant issues or trends in relation to internal review outcomes, as well as the Commission's processes
• proactively monitor and, where appropriate, improve policies, procedures, work practice and management systems to enable the Commission to continually improve effective and efficient standards of service
• discharge other duties as directed by the Commissioner and senior members of the Commission from time to time, including:
o assisting other teams of the Commission when operationally required
o recommending improvements to the Commission's policies, procedures, work practices and management systems to enable the Commission to maintain high standards of service and continuous improvement
o contributing to the Commission's project, research, policy and educational activities.
You will:
• be admitted as an Australian lawyer and be eligible to hold a practising certificate as a legal practitioner in Queensland
• abide by the Australian Solicitor Conduct Rules (as amended from time to time) and display high standards of professional ethical conduct at all times, in addition to any other professional obligations
• be responsible for a number of statutory delegations on behalf of the Commissioner from time to time.
