Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.
Invasive plants and animals significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.
As a Biosecurity Officer, you will:
• Develop and lead regional technical operations directed at the eradication of invasive pest plants and animals in high priority situations in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Use specialist technical knowledge to raise the level of awareness and commitment of stakeholders for invasive species management
• Undertake investigations into alleged offences against the Biosecurity Act 2014.
You may have previous experience or awareness of weed and pest animal management practices, field survey methodology, stakeholder relationship building approaches and/or compliances procedures.
There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must possess a:
• Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma or higher in a field of agriculture or natural resource management from a recognised tertiary institution
• Commitment to obtain vaccinations (or evidence of prior vaccinations) for diseases such as Q fever will be required.
