The Principal Consultant leads a small team with responsibility for the coordination, oversight and professional development of team members.

The primary accountabilities of the Principal Consultant include:
- Provide high level consultancy and HR advice to management on the implementation of contemporary HR operations and practices.
- Provide HR advice and high level support to executive and senior management on HR guidelines, policies and frameworks.
- Enhance and embed HR practice and capability at management levels.
- Develop and support the overall establishment management systems and practices across the agency.
- Lead and coordinate the development, implementation and continual review of establishment management practices and HR services across the agency.
- Monitor the agency's internal and external environment to identify workforce needs and inform the design and development of key HR services that deliver benefits and meet identified needs.
- Analyse trends and metrics to identify and develop holistic solutions and influence policies for HR and people matters.
- Solve complex problems, analyse issues from various perspectives and exercise sound, independent judgement.
- Lead a high performing team and foster a culture of collaboration, evidence based decision making, innovation and service delivery.
