Mental Health Adviser (Counsellor)
Woodford Correctional Centre; Custodial Operations; Woodford
• Conduct mental health, disability, and suicide or self-harm risk screening of offenders, and record information
• Respond to offender requests for support in relation to welfare needs and collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders as required
• Deliver individual or group-based brief, skill acquisition focused interventions aimed at developing coping skills and building resilience
• Provide case management to individuals with presenting mental health, disability or other vulnerabilities using effective time management and prioritisation skills, including clinical and non-clinical responsibilities and the maintenance of accurate record and documentation
• Engage in evidence-based practice relevant to the prevention of suicide and self harm behaviour
• Provide timely advice to offenders about available services and community expectations

- Experience and understanding of welfare provision in a human services or related field.
- Experience in or exposure to a criminal justice environment or similar human services area.
- Resilient to remain motivated in achieving high standards in the delivery of essential frontline services.
- Well-rounded in administrative and technical skills that assist in the achievement of workplace goals.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Experience in working collaboratively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of risk and mental health screening instruments and processes and their application and be able to apply within criminal justice settings.
- Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to provide high quality professional reports and case notes.
- Well-developed verbal communication skills with the ability to engage with a diverse client group and to effectively communicate with stakeholders in a manner appropriate to the audience.
