The Senior Water Officer position at the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) presents an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in managing Queensland’s water resources in the North Region. In this role, you will lead, coordinate, and oversee essential departmental services related to water regulations. This includes providing expert advice to clients, staff, and key stakeholders on water products, natural resource projects, and legislative requirements, including planning frameworks.

The Role
This Senior Water Officer position at the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) offers you the chance to be involved in the management of State water resources in North Region. This role will co-ordinate, lead and oversee key departmental services associated with water regulations, including the provision of advice to clients, staff and key stakeholders relating to water products, natural resource projects, and legislative requirements including planning frameworks.

Key Accountabilities:
• Advise, liaise, consult and negotiate with departmental clients, all levels of government, and other organisations on natural resource management issues, in particular the State's water resources.
• Provide high quality technical advice on the provisions of the Water Act 2000, associated legislation and water management issues.
• Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of water regulatory and assessment functions to achieve sustainable use of water and other resource.
• Investigating and/or deciding on applications for new and other dealings relating to water resources
• Exercise delegated authority under legislation using sound administrative decisionmaking processes.
• Operate independently and as part of a high functioning team to meet the objectives outlined in the department's strategic plan and business plans.
• Monitoring, enhancing and encouraging staff performance and development to ensure a high level of staff competence and effectiveness.
• Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on outputs to ensure that the desired results are achieved on schedule.
• Identifying resourcing issues, leading and coordinating the recruitment, selection, induction and training of staff.
• Undertake risk analysis to find innovative solutions to complex problems within the regulatory framework.
• Review, develop and implement improved work practices and procedures in meeting departmental objectives and maximising services to clients.

About You
• While not mandatory, it would be preferable for the applicant to have a degree in Engineering, Applied Science or Natural Resource Management related to water and natural resource management or agreed equivalent.
• Driving Government vehicles, to conduct the business of the Department will be required.
