The Coastal and Islands Region covers a diverse landscape stretching from the world’s largest sand island, World Heritage-listed K’Gari, to the Southern Bay Islands in the south.

Our dedicated Technical Support staff make a meaningful impact to the sustainability and conservation of the protected area’s natural and cultural values of our breathtaking coastal islands. As an Assistant Principal Ranger – Estate Management, you will work in a stunning and inspiring environment while actively participating in efforts to safeguard the beauty and heritage of this unique region with our First Nation partners. Support and lead a team of like-minded individuals to develop and implement sustainable conservation strategies and management plans, lead dedicated teams of specialists in the fields of management planning, pest management, research, biodiversity and estate management.

EThe Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation contributes to ensuring some of the world's most diverse natural environments are maintained for the health and prosperity of current and future generations. In this role, you'll play a key role in driving the protection of some of our most wonderful places.

Attendance at Manly would be required to fulfil this position, however flexible work arrangements may be negotiated to provide options for those based at Maroochydore or Maryborough.

The position will lead and coordinate a broader team of 7, whilst providing high level technical advice to management units within the Region and stakeholders.

About you:
We're looking for individuals who are passionate about conservation, land management and working collaboratively. Your planning and leadership skills will be key in juggling and meeting competing priorities, while your ability to motivate and influence your teams will be the key to achieving outcomes in a busy and changing environment.

To be successful in the role, you will also have:
· Strong leadership, collaboration and engagement skills.
· Strong program planning skills, including development of works programs, prioritising and resource allocation.
· Ability to work under pressure, with various competing priorities and programs.
· Ability to manage core environmental programs including annual pest, management planning, research, and biodiversity programs as well as regular protected area tenure matters.
· Experience and understanding of operating in a legislative and policy framework to deliver core programs.
· Strong communications skills and the ability to coordinate and facilitate workshops comprised of various stakeholder groups.
· Ability to build sustainable relationships with key stakeholders of program delivery and management planning, particularly First Nation communities.
· Strong problem solving and resolution skills.
· High level writing, communication, systems management and reporting skills.
