Ranger in Charge - Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land)

Are you ready to lead, inspire, and make a lasting impact in one of Queensland's most iconic and remote national parks?

As Ranger in Charge (RIC), you will lead a small team and oversee operational work programs across Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land), Wiliyan-ngurru and Finucane Island national parks, and Royton Timber Reserve.

Key responsibilities include:
* Managing the day-to-day operations of the work unit.
* Developing and implementing operational plans aligned with business strategies, policies, and procedures.
* Supervising staff, contractors, and volunteers, including managing performance issues.
* Growing your own and your team's skills and capabilities.
* Managing the work unit's budget and expenditure.
* Ensuring employee and visitor safety and responding to critical incidents.
* Planning and managing visitor, fire, and pest activities.
* Implementing and enforcing legislation administered by the Department.
* Building partnerships to achieve regional business plan objectives.
* Engaging with stakeholders, community groups, and visitors to foster understanding of the Department's role.
* Negotiating with stakeholders, neighbours, and community groups to resolve local land management issues.
* Performing other duties within your competence and training as required.

This is an exciting opportunity to step into a refreshed park environment. The Ranger Base has been redesigned and rebuilt following the 2023 flooding, and key visitor assets are still under construction. For the successful applicant, this will feel like moving onto a new park, with the chance to work collaboratively to recommence management with a fresh outlook.

As a member of the Cooperative Management Council (CMC) for Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land), you will work closely with the Waanyi Prescribed Body Corporate to implement the park management plan and ensure the park is managed in line with shared goals and values.

Challenges and rewards of remote living:
This role is based at the Boodjamulla ranger base, with accommodation provided on park. Remote living requires adaptability and resilience, but it also offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the stunning natural environment and contribute to the conservation of a truly special part of Queensland.

Why join us?
This is a unique opportunity to start anew - leading a refreshed team, shaping the future of natural resource management and conservation in a revitalised park environment, and delivering meaningful outcomes.

To apply, please provide:
* your current resume (max 3 pages)
* a 1 page statement demonstrating your ability or potential to fulfil the role requirements.
* information to help us understand how you could contribute to our workforce diversity.
* evidence that you meet the mandatory requirements.

Applications will remain current for 12 months.
