We are seeking an experienced qualified Forensic Document Examiner to join our team. In this position you will conduct forensic document examinations, including those of a complex nature, and provide witness statements and expert testimony to courts of law. You will conduct quality assurance procedures and assist in monitoring and maintaining compliance of the Forensic Services Quality System under NATA accreditation. You will contribute to the development and delivery of training of QPS personnel in relation to Forensic Document Examination. Refer to the role description for full details.

Your key accountabilities  

The core capability requirements for this role are: 

  • Conduct examinations of handwriting, signatures and documents, including cases of a complex nature. 
  • Conduct quality assurance of case files, including opinion verifications, and technical and administrative reviews of case notes. 
  • Prepare witness statements, reports, and provide advice and recommendations on document examinations. 
  • Provide expert testimony in relevant courts of law on matters relating to document examination, communicate with investigators, prosecution and defence representatives, and attend pre-trial conferences relating to evidence to be presented, when required. 
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining compliance of the Unit with all requirements of the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Forensic Services Quality System including NATA accreditation. 
  • Facilitate, develop and provide the education, training and development of personnel within the Unit and other members of the Queensland Police Service with respect to document examination. 
  • Keep abreast of the latest technological developments relating to forensic document examination. 

Role Requirements 

Mandatory 

  • Successful completion of recognised training in the field of Forensic Document Examination under the direction of a qualified document examiner, for example, within a State or Commonwealth Department or a recognised agency. 
  • Expertise recognised through relevant extensive work experience in the field of Forensic Document Examination. 

Qualification  

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Science or equivalent as approved by the Manager, Scientific Section.
