Key Details:

There are two temporary full time positions available:

  • 30 March 2026 to 26 March 2027; and
  • 18 May 2026 to 27 November 2026.

Suitable applicants from this process may be considered for identical or similar vacancies over the next 12 months.

Reimbursement or payment of relocation costs may be considered on appointment of successful applicant in accordance with the Transfer and Appointment Expenses Directive 11/11.

In this role you will represent clients in criminal law matters, including preparing cases, instructing counsel, and appearing in court, primarily in the Magistrates Court. You'll provide duty lawyer services in the Magistrates and Children's Courts, offer legal advice to clients and the public, and support team members with legal enquiries. You'll receive supervision and guidance from senior practitioners, help to build strong networks with stakeholders, and contribute to team planning while suggesting ways to improve work practices.

About you

You will have experience in representing clients and advocating in criminal law and related matters. You will demonstrate an understanding of criminal law, court procedures, and professional ethical obligations. You will use the principles of trauma-informed practice to sensitively and effectively engage with clients who have complex needs and can communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will build and maintain positive working relationships to support effective service delivery. You will be accountable for delivering quality services and pursuing continuous improvement in your work and outcomes. You will respond constructively to guidance and performance feedback and actively seek opportunities for professional development. You will demonstrate integrity in decision-making and apply sound judgement to identify and escalate issues when required.
