Senior Water Planning Officer
South Water Planning and Science; South Region; Water Resource Management; Brisbane / Alternative work location/s will be considered
We are looking for highly organised people with a science, policy, or regulatory background to be involved in water plan review projects that are currently underway in line with Queensland Water Act 2000. You will be leading and working in a small team and will be involved in leading and supporting a range of diverse activities to inform water planning processes including collaboration and consultation with internal and external clients; complex desktop research and data analysis; preparing policy papers, water planning instruments and other associated supporting documents; liaising with technical experts and undertaking complex technical reviews; and identifying and supporting building team knowledge and skills. Previous experience in an administrative decision-making role and a manual driver's licence would be highly regarded.

The Role
Operating from within the south region Water Planning and Science team, the Senior Water Planning Officer will be involved in the development of innovative management solutions and policy for the development of Water Plans, Water Management Protocols and other policy relating to the efficient and sustainable management of Queensland's water resources.
Key Duties and Accountabilities
- Lead staff and small teams and coordinate water planning activities within a Region, including coordinating input from associated multi-disciplinary teams to ensure delivery of water planning functions and business objectives.
- Communicate, consult and negotiate with internal and external clients in the delivery of water planning and science initiatives including facilitating stakeholder input for the development and implementation of water plans.
- Manage the implementation of the Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders communication and engagement to support the development of water plans and other water planning policy.
- Interpret and apply legislation, specifically the Water Act 2000 and associated subordinate legislation, regulation and policy, to achieve water planning and management outcomes.
- Prepare and provide timely and accurate advice on project actions, complex briefs, reports and other policy documentation.
- Participate in regional and state-wide project teams to progress water business objectives.
- Prepare and review policy papers, briefing notes, Cabinet submissions, Governor -in-Council documentation, and other correspondence as required.
- Oversight of team outputs, including reports and correspondence to ensure quality outcomes, sound conclusions and consistent application of water management policy and legislation.
- Review water policy and planning proposals, identify risks and provide recommendations to support their implementation.
- Represent the department in a range of community and water user forums.
- Drive to a positive team culture by supporting team members and sharing information.
