About the role
As a Compliance Investigations Officer you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with legislation administered and regulated by the QBCC. You will conduct detailed investigations into alleged breaches by licence holders and other individuals, through job site operations and field investigations. You will develop investigation plans, manage a high‑volume caseload, apply best‑practice investigative techniques and compile high‑quality briefs of evidence for disciplinary, civil, or criminal proceedings. You will also deliver proactive compliance activities such as site audits, desktop audits, and surveillance, and represent the QBCC in tribunals, courts and educational and promotional forums.
You will provide advice and support to QBCC staff, consumers, contractors, and industry stakeholders on building industry regulations, while liaising with external organisations and industry bodies. A strong customer service focus is essential, including delivering face‑to‑face service at the Townsville Regional Office front counter and supporting broader Regional Service Centre operations. You will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders and support the QBCC's commitment to effective regulation and community confidence in the building industry.
This position is based in Townsville, and upon completion of training, the successful candidate will have the option to work from home for up to two days per week under an approved Flexible Work Arrangement.

About you
Mandatory qualifications and experience:
- A minimum of two years' investigative experience within law enforcement or regulatory environments, including experience giving evidence in Court as an investigator
- A recognised investigation qualification, such as Certificate IV in Government Investigations or higher
