Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.
Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.
As the Senior Scientist (Data Analytics), you will:
• Drive team and/or organisational capability development by creating and contributing to learning opportunities to ensure staff develop and maintain the capabilities they require to perform their role effectively, confidently, and safely.
• Provide specialist expert analysis and advice to contribute to strategic planning and assist external stakeholders (e.g. local government, industry, community) and internal stakeholders (e.g. management, policy, and operational teams) to effectively address or manage relevant risks associated with the reporting of the National Electric Ant Eradication Program (NEAEP) response plan.
• Independently liaise with external stakeholders, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with industry, community, and government leaders to drive successful project and policy outcomes and create new opportunities for collaboration.
• Demonstrate ability to positively and effectively communicate and collaborate with other scientists and wider audiences to actively resolve problems, address scientific challenges, and deliver innovative scientific solutions for strategic assessment and management of the NEAEP response plan.
There are some requirements that we see as essential. You must possess a:
• A Degree in mathematical statistics or in science, agricultural science, applied science, or equivalent qualifications in statistical methods from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Relevant transferable experience would be desirable especially in data analytics, such as biometrics or spatial statistics, and GIS.
• A current “C” class drivers' licence.
Previous experience and skills in the use of relevant software such as R, Python, and Arc GIS is highly regarded.
