Queensland's passenger rail network is undergoing significant transformation in response to unprecedented growth and emerging demands. In the next decade, various large rail infrastructure investment projects and system enhancements will be delivered which will change the way people move. To ensure a co-ordinated approach in the delivery of this large rail infrastructure pipeline, TMR has established a Rail Division and a Rail Infrastructure Delivery Office (RIDO) responsible for delivering significant rail projects, including the $5.75 billon Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail (LGC) Project.

Key responsibilities include:
• Provide advice and consultancy as a technical expert for Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in Transport and Main Road's Rail Division.
• Deliver GIS&T projects, products, and services to meet departmental requirements.
• Undertake field surveys utilising various field captue techniques and products to capture data to support various Transport and Main Road's Rail Division projects.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge in GIS in developing departmental knowledge and practice through technology transfer activities, to provide the technical capability to deliver TMR's geospatial needs.
• Manage the delivery of Geospatial and Digital projects for departmental clients and undertake the development of GIS applications to provide leading edge solutions to complex problems.
• Assemble, analyse, interpret and report on spatial data from appropriate systems, providing information through compiled datasets, high quality mapping products or reports as required by customers and clients.
• Review, analyse, recommend, and report on matters relating to GIS and present technical papers in transport related forums.
• Manage and independently undertake leading edge applied research projects to meet departmental business needs and improve GIS capability.
• Develop, implement and maintain GIS, Survey and BIM knowledge management processes and systems for the department.
• Provide expert advice in delivering GIS solutions to professional and technical staff both internal and external to the department.
• Establish strategies to maintain and develop GIS technical capability within the department to help meet business needs.
• Establish and maintain alliances and processes to provide interchange with spatial sciences and other technologies.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge in GIS in developing departmental knowledge and practice through technology transfer activities, to provide the technical capability to deliver departmental geospatial needs.
• Establish project activities that fully support employment equity, ethical practice and workplace health and safety. You will have the responsibility to ensure that reporting staff have an understanding of and adhere to TMR policy in the areas of:
o Financial practices;
o Equity & Diversity;
o Workplace Health and Safety; and
o Code of Conduct
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• Minimum of a 3-year degree from a tertiary institute in Spatial Science (GIS) or an equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institute
• A current Class ‘C' class Drivers Licence
• Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
Desirable qualifications
• Professional membership and/or certification with geospatial industry associations
• Professional experience in GIS/Survey or similar roles.
