The Strategic Communication team is committed to delivering communication and engagement solutions to promote departmental initiatives and priorities, connect Queenslanders to programs, and effectively reach external customers and stakeholders through targeted messaging and channels.

The team is responsible for proactively driving and delivering communication and engagement activity with a focus on the customer, including communication planning, implementation and evaluation; issues and media management; campaign development; corporate identity management; and design and production of print and digital assets.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Principal Advisor, Communication, you will specifically:

  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Work with the Manager, Strategic Communication and the Director, Strategic Communication to lead and manage a dedicated team of communication professionals to provide the department with a comprehensive suite of communication services, including internal communications, stakeholder engagement, website content development and maintenance and strategic corporate communications.
  • Co-facilitate the development, delivery and evaluation of communication plans and activities for specific projects and initiatives to connect stakeholders and other Queenslanders with the work of the department.
  • Deliver communication projects and activities in line with their respective budgets and resource allocations, ensuring liaison and consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to a team responsible for the development, delivery, and evaluation of innovative and effective communication strategies targeting diverse audiences as well as the delivery of the department's social media and digital marketing function.
  • Provide advice on communication, including campaigns, crisis communication, and issues management, to senior departmental officers.
  • Work seamlessly with the department's Media team, providing leadership where appropriate to ensure alignment between agreed key messages and our content across platforms.
  • Support the implementation of departmental communication policies and standards within the department.
  • Prepare original submissions, briefs, reports, and correspondence of a complex nature relating to communication issues.
  • Ensure departmental communication materials comply with corporate governance processes, whole-of-government policies, and regulatory requirements as well as editorial and visual style guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships and networks with departmental staff, the offices of the Minister and Director-General as well as key external stakeholders and other government agencies.
  • Assist the Manager and the Director to manage the logistical operations, human resources, financial, and procurement activities of the Strategic Communication team.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Strategic Communication team by actively innovating and improving strategies, processes, and systems.
