Housing Officer (Frontline Services)
Delivery; First Nations Housing & Homelessness; Policy Performance & First Nations; Cooktown, Cairns or Thursday Island
Your role within Policy, Performance and First Nations will support the department to develop and implement housing and homelessness strategies and policies to support service delivery and drive housing and homelessness reform to deliver outcomes for First Nations peoples and communities. You will provide a broad range of services and advice to customers with complex support needs, advocates and other stakeholders. As part of a team you will provide high quality, person-centred assistance to diverse customers experiencing complex and challenging housing, and whole of life issues.
Regular travel and field work in remote communities is a requirement of the role. The department does not provide long term accommodation for this role. When travelling on behalf of the department, accommodation will be provided. The person best suited for the role must be able to travel frequently.

Identified position. This position is designated as Identified. What you will be doing:
• Communicate effectively and sensitively with First Nations peoples, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Councils, to foster collaborative relationships with the community.
• Conduct comprehensive, person-centred customer interviews around housing need. Assess social housing applications, quality assuring assessments and conducting regular reviews of applications.
• Monitor and follow-up arrears, rent payments and action sundry debts as required.
• Conduct home visits and investigate and facilitate the resolution of tenancy issues, complaints and maintenance issues, escalating appropriately to Senior Housing Officer.
• Maintain accurate and timely customer and property records and files ensuring departmental compliance. Enter a high volume of data and process documents utilising a number of IT systems.
• Support and maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to.

Mandatory Requirement
• Class C Driver's License
