The Wildlife and Threatened Species Operations (WTSO) Branch is seeking a motivated and experienced professional to join our Networks and Partnerships Team, supporting the delivery of the Threatened Species On Country Program across Queensland.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting and recovering Queensland's threatened species while fostering strong partnerships with First Nations communities, Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger organisations, conservation partners, researchers, and government stakeholders.

As a Senior Conservation Officer, you will contribute to the design, delivery, and support of threatened species recovery projects across Queensland's diverse landscapes.

Working within a statewide program, you will provide expert guidance and practical project support to First Nations partners to achieve sustainable threatened species outcomes. You will help bridge contemporary conservation science with Traditional Ecological Knowledge, supporting collaborative approaches that respect cultural values and strengthen conservation outcomes.

The role offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of ecosystems and communities, requiring adaptability, initiative, and a genuine commitment to partnership-based conservation.

What You'll Be Doing
Building and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with Traditional Owners, Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger organisations, First Nations communities, government agencies, researchers, and other stakeholders.
Supporting the development and implementation of innovative threatened species recovery projects across Queensland.
Providing expert advice and practical assistance to First Nations partners delivering conservation initiatives.
Working within a team that fosters collaboration between diverse stakeholders to achieve shared environmental and cultural outcomes.
Communicating complex ecological concepts and threatened species management approaches to a wide range of audiences.
Supporting landscape-scale and place-based conservation programs that deliver long-term benefits for Queensland's threatened species.
Contributing to project planning, monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
Travelling throughout Queensland to engage directly with communities, partners, and project sites.

What We're Looking For
We are seeking someone who can combine strong technical knowledge with exceptional relationship-building skills.

You will bring:
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain effective partnerships with First Nations peoples and diverse stakeholder groups.
Strong consultation and communication skills.
Experience supporting environmental, natural resource management, conservation, or threatened species projects.
An understanding of threatened species management, ecological principles, and contemporary conservation practices.
The ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with First Nations communities while valuing and incorporating Traditional Ecological Knowledge where appropriate
Experience managing complex projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
A commitment to achieving practical conservation outcomes through innovative and collaborative approaches.
A willingness to travel throughout Queensland and work across diverse environmental and cultural settings.
