You will work as part of a team of sworn and unsworn forensic scientists based at Queensland Police Headquarters Brisbane providing an expert weapons, firearms and ballistics related forensic service to investigating police, courts of law and the community.

Your Key Accountabilities:
The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Conduct weapon categorisations on non-firearm and firearm related exhibits (as an Approved Officer under the Weapons Act 1990).
- Undertake forensic procedures and examinations including serial number recovery, weapons testing and toolmark examinations and identifications.
- Competently maintain and operate specialised equipment within the Unit.
- Contribute to expert skills acquisition through training and development opportunities.
- Comply with requirements of the QPS Forensic Services Quality System, including adherence to forensic procedures and maintenance of a case management information system.
- Assist in education, training and development of staff within the Group and other members of the Queensland Police Service.
- Prepare reports and statements as required and give evidence in Courts of Law on the results of forensic analysis.
Role Requirements:
Qualification:
- Possession of a science degree from a recognised tertiary institution with study components of a minimum pass (4) grade in the core sciences of chemistry and/ or physics or other relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent qualifications.+
Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience:
- Previous experience/qualifications working in a forensic firearms laboratory is mandatory.
Other:
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo psychometric assessment, prior to appointment.
- The role will involve exposure to items, information and images of a confronting/graphic nature.
