Permanent AO5 Senior Ranger, Rangelands
As the Senior Ranger, the focus for this position will be leading the planning and delivery of fire, pest, visitor and asset management programs for existing and recent acquisitions of protected area estate. A key priority of the position is the establishment of newly acquired lands as protected areas.
While based in Longreach, to effectively lead the planning and delivery of fire, pest, visitor and asset management programs across this geographically dispersed area, extensive travel will be necessary; this includes camping out overnight in remote locations.
The role requires developing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with communities and stakeholders to support effective protected area management. Having the ability to establish and maintain effective and meaningful relationships and communicate with influence is essential.
Faced with varying and complex issues, you will need a solid understanding of policies and systems and will need to implement governance structures to support the delivery of the department's priorities. Human resource management experience and administrative skills are essential.
Depending on the task you are required to work as part of a team or sometimes alone. As Senior Ranger, you will need a positive and collaborative attitude and the ability to work and travel with others, but also occasionally alone. Experience and confidence working in remote (and sometimes isolated) areas is essential. A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required.
Accommodation may be negotiated for this position in Longreach.
