Your opportunity
The Department of Education is one of the largest public sector service providers in the state of Queensland. With over 1,200 schools and education centres spanning from the South East corner to the Far North peninsula, we provide high quality education services in Queensland state schools.

As part of the Queensland Government's $100 million commitment for a Student Wellbeing Package, we are calling qualified psychologists to join us and be part of this game-changing initiative. This significant commitment by the Queensland government will ensure that every Queensland state school student can benefit from increased access to wellbeing and mental health support at school.

About the role
The purpose of this role is to continue to deliver high quality support services to Queensland State School students with mild to moderate mental health concerns, providing early intervention support and continuing to monitor their wellbeing. You will be working as a specialist member of a multi-disciplinary team at a school level connecting with students, parents, carers and the broader community.

This role comes from the Queensland government's commitment to providing ongoing care to its students with a rise in mental health issues.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Individual and group counselling and therapeutic interventions with students, parents and families.
  • Support and manage diagnoses from external providers, monitoring students' progress.
  • Administer specialised psychoeducational assessments of students through the “assessments administered by guidance officer and psychologists” policy.
  • Identify needs and participate in the referral and planning of services for children, parents and families to community health agencies.
  • Develop or maintain data collection, interpretation procedures and confidential record keeping and reporting systems for individual students that are referred for psychological services.
  • Complete the minimum requirements for 30 hours of professional development activities annually in line with the Psychology Board of Australia registration standards.

The possession of current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is required for this role.

Demonstrated competency in assessing mild to moderate clients is an essential requirement of this position.
